The Smart Energy

The role of standards in smart electrification

There are thousands of organizations and companies working in parallel to bring on the tools, systems and products that will allow humanity to continue to prosper while taking better care of the planet.

Standards are the very obvious underlying factor that will enable the large scale deployment of most climate change efforts -  actually most human efforts -  involving any kind of technology today.

They enable the measurement of efficiency, how it is compared, expressed, and tested. Standards are the basis for benchmarking and energy audits, and they cover the whole energy supply chain, from power stations down to refrigerators.

Regulators use standards to stipulate minimum efficiency needs, to set energy saving targets and to gauge compliance.

Companies need standards to roll out new inventions globally and to ensure that systems and products work reliably and safely with existing systems and products.
